This is another post based on one of our reader’s questions. Basically, the lady has written to inquire as to what a zero degree backpacking sleeping bag is?
I think the area where people are not sure about is the zero part. What exactly does that mean?
They took two sleeping bags and zipped them together so it made one great big bed for all of us. It seemed the ideal solution until one day a group of us went hiking overnight and one of those people was my girlfriend. What a pain it was lugging around two heavy bags and then in the dark trying to get them together as one.
After that first time, we decided right then and there that we would invest in a lightweight double sleeping bag for backpacking. The basic idea is that you can stay warmer because of the body heat from at least two people.
You really have to watch how much gear you take along on any trip.
It is not only important to watch the weight you are carrying in your knapsack or canoe, but still, when packing the car, you don’t want to be overrun with huge bulky stuff.
So I think, the best solution for convenience, is a roll up camping mattress.
The insect that hounds me the most is the mosquito. Invariably, it finds it way to my skin no matter how I prepare. And the worst part for me is that buzzing in my ears all night long. How really does one little mosquito live long enough to plague me out of my sleep and enjoyment?
Well, I have fixed them now, because I decided that the best way to handle these pesky bugs was to invest in a lightweight sleeping bag with mosquito net. So here is what I came up with.
